Size Small, Please.

Imagine yourself walking into a store, like Hollister, for example. You see a really adorable ocean blue shirt. How cute is that? You just have to have it. So you decide you are going to buy it. Time to look for the right size. Normally you buy a small, so you think okay that should the right size. No problem, right? You take the amazing shirt home. You decide to wear that shirt that night when you go hang out with your friends. You put the shirt on. Oh No! It doesn’t fit you! It’s too small! It looks like it could maybe fit a 10-year-old. This is crazy!

Why is this? Clothing is being made smaller these days that it was a few years ago. This is because the “perfect image” of a girl has changed. Used to, a girl with curves was thought of to be beautiful. Now, a girl who is taller and almost emaciated looking is what people like. Honestly, most girls are not tall and skinny. Look at the girls in any high school. Take Batesville High School, for example. Out of all the girls, how many are tall and skinny? Not that many, though there are a few. Most are medium height and have “a little meat on their bones.” This is not a bad thing at all and these girls are not fat. They are normal, the way many high school girls are. So why put girls so much pressure on teenage girls, who all ready struggle with body image, to fit into these small clothes?

With clothes coming in sizes as small as XXS, it is becoming even more difficult for girls. They strive to be able to fit into the smallest size. Some do, some don’t. But when some do, they don’t do it the right way. Having an eating disorder is “the easy way out.” Exercising and eating healthy are the right way to do it. Not every girl needs to fit into a size XXS or even a small for that matter. People come in all shapes and SIZES. Whether that size is an XXS or an XXL.

Do you know what you are singing?

You sing along with the song on the radio. It is so upbeat and you just love it. There are a few lyrics you are not sure exactly what they say. So you just kind of hum when that part of the song comes. But, what are the real lyrics?

The truth is, a lot of the words to your favorite song, are not like you think they are. Some of the words are actually very raunchy. It is truly appalling to find out that the song that you never thought was bad actually has bad parts in it. Other songs, you know are bad, but still you sing along. Rappers are most commonly thought of with this type of lyric use. However, they aren’t the only ones. Tenacious D has a song called “F*** her gently.” Now do you want to listen to a song called that? There are so many more examples of this sad use of lyrics.  Caution, some of these examples are very disturbing.

            - Imma bring the cool whip/ then I want you to strip.                                                                         “Slow Jam” by Kanye West

-Don’t wanna squeeze triggers, just wanna squeeze tits.“Hey Mama” by The Black Eyed Peas

-She start feeling on my Johnson right out the blue, Girl you super thick so I’m thinking that’s koo. “Tipsy” by J-Kwon

-Girlz call me Jolly Rancher cuz I stay so hard. You can suck me for a long time.“Laffy Taffy” by D4L

-He’s a one stop, gotcha hot, makin’ all the panties drop. He’s a one stop, got me hot, makin’ my “uh” pop. He’s a one stop, get it while it’s hot, baby don’t stop.“Candyman” by Christina Aguilera

-Baby, don’t you wanna, dance upon me, leaving behind my name and age.
“I’m a Slave for You” by Britney Spears

-The sex was crazy then and crazy still.                                                            “1, 2, Step” by Ciara

You get the point. Lyrics these days are terrible. They are raunchy and disgusting and should be left out of a song. Songs can be perfectly fine without these trash words.

Now, not all of the songs out today are bad. Some actually don’t have cuss words or any disturbing lyrics. Those are truly the good songs. If only there were more of those out these days.

The Text Talk

Text talk. It has become a new language in itself.

OMG, texting is part of a teenagers every day life. Try to make them go a day without it, and they will go crazy. That is understandable when they hardly go an hour without picking up the phone and texting a friend. Calling someone is a thing of the past. Why do that when they can just text?

The “big thing” to have now is a Smart Phone. There are many to chose from these days. They have a full keybad on them, making it easier to text. Alltel and Cingular have a wide variety to choose from. The only problem with these phones is the fact that they are like miniature computers. This may not seem like a problem, but really it can be. The phones have to be reset every so often and they turn themselves on and off quite frequently. Both of those can get pretty annoying when you are just sitting on your couch and all of a sudden you hear your phone coming back on, not ever knowing it had turned itself off in the first place. Nonetheless, many people strive to get one of these phones.

However, texting can actually be dangerous. Some people get so obsessed with texting, that they text nonstop. Like when they are at school, at work, at church, and even while driving. An extreme amount of people text during school, though not as many people since the meetings we have had and Saturday school being promised. Still, it is hard not to try to text if you have a chance between the schoolwork. Working at a job is one of the hardest places to try to not text. Where I work, as long as I get my work done, I can still text when I have a few breaks in between helping customers or cleaning. Most of my co-workers do the same and try not to let it interfere with our job. Texting during church is one of the worst possible things a person can do. Instead of listening to what the Preacher says, the “texter” is too busy caught up in his or her own conversation with another person who is also in his or her own church. If a person were to ask a teen if they have ever texted while driving, many of them would say that they have. I’m not going to lie, I have before as well. All of these are extremely sad but true.

Texting. It is a new phenomena. This generation is so infatuated with texting. In fact, I am texting people as I write this blog. If there was a texting rehab, over half of the teens would need to be there. But I g2g, ttyl. ILY!
